I’m not saying you should RUN to Amazon or your retailer of choice to buy it, but I am saying you absolutely need this book. Like right now. RIGHT. NOW.

I don’t usually go for tattoo-covered, video-gaming, hockey-playing nerd-jocks who think I’m flighty and superficial. His narrow view of me is the first strike against him. It doesn’t help that he’s buddy-buddy with my brother.
And that his best friend has a crush on me.
And that I just moved in with them.
Oh, did I not mention we’re roommates?
I suppose it doesn’t matter. Fitzy has made it clear he’s not interested in me, even though the sparks between us are liable to burn our house down. I’m not the kind of girl who chases after a man, though, and I’m not about to start. I’ve got my hands full dealing with a new school, a sleazy professor, and an uncertain future. So if my sexy brooding roomie wises up and realizes what he’s missing?

I have been waiting very impatiently patiently for this book. I am a huge fan of Elle Kennedy’s and her Off Campus series is one of my absolute FAVORITES. When she announced that she was doing a spinoff series of Off Campus titled Briar U, I got a little too excited. AND then I saw that it was Summer and Fitz’s story. I think I literally squealed. Truly. I was lucky enough to win an ARC of The Chase so I finished it yesterday, and then Elle dropped a surprise early release on us! So, HAPPY RELEASE DAY!
Now, for the good stuff: The Review
I was so excited to get a Summer and Fitz book because I fell in love with Summer from the little glimpse we got of her in The Score. And much like Summer, I wanted Fitz. You get to know Fitz a little better in the Off Campus series, so I was really interested to get to know him in The Chase.
Summer Heyward-DiLaurentes: We get a glimpse of the firey Summer in The Score, and I kind of fell in love with her there. She is truly an open book. She says what’s on her mind and wears her heart on her sleeve.
Colin Fitzgerald AKA Fitz: What a man. You meet Fitz in the Off Campus series and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on his story. The quiet, nerdy, hot as Hades, hockey player was a mystery with a capitol M. And lord knows that boy has a brick wall built up so far you could probably touch the moon.
Summer transfers to Briar after getting politely kicked out of Brown for reasons you’ll come to find out. Things happen and our dear Summer finds herself living in a house with 3 Briar hockey team members: Hollis, Hunter, and our hunky, tatted up, nerdy Fitz.
Enter copious amounts of sexual tension. Sparks fly, but the conflict and Fitz’s brick wall keep us smoldering. But honestly, who doesn’t love a smoking slow burn?
The Chase introduced a host of new characters, that hopefully we’ll be seeing in the future with their own book.
Brenna- Brenna is Coach Jensen’s daughter and Summer’s proclaimed new BFF. I love Brenna and I can’t wait for her book. She’s ballsy, beautiful, and hilarious. Her and Summer make a perfect duo and I am beyond ready for her story in The Risk (more on that later).
Hollis- a not so new face. You’ve met him in Off Campus and y’all, I kind of love the big lug. I am praying for his book. He reminds me of Joey from Friends. Kind of goofy, will do just about anything for the ladies (*cough* shave *cough*), but is totally lovable.
Hunter – I’m not sure how I feel about Hunter. He’s a new face, and I’m just not sure if I’m sold on him. SLIGHT SPOILER AHEAD I got a little annoyed at Hunter over the whole “dibs” thing. You can call dibs, sure, but if the girl doesn’t wanna date you then goodness get over it. Women aren’t candy bars. BUT I will say I felt bad for him because him and his feelings got played around with and that wasn’t fair. SPOILER END.
I really enjoyed Summer’s story. She’s beautiful and wealthy and often judged because of that. I loved reading about her struggles, because it really emphasized that you don’t know someone by first glance. And sometimes you judge them before you get to know them and can miss out on getting to know a wonderful person.
I had high expectations for The Chase and honestly, it exceeded those expectations. I’ll smile or give a little giggle at books, but I found myself actually laughing out loud at different parts of this book. Then I was crying. Then raging. Then smirking and raising my eyebrows, because let’s be real, Elle is like the queen of steamy scenes.
Overall I absolutely loved The Chase. I was so happy to be back at Briar and get to see some familiar faces, all of our favorites from Off Campus make an appearance, but they in no way overshadowed the new cast we’re growing to love.
I am patiently waiting for book 2 in the Briar U series….
