When I say I have been WAITING for this book since we first were first introduced to Jack and Emery, I am not exaggerating. It was going to be a slow burn to finally get to their story, but I am a sucker for a redemption arc so I was so excited to see Jack’s.
Emery Saunders has been a bit of a mystery, but she is the sweet, quiet, and shy bookstore cafe owner that came to Hart’s Boardwalk 10 years ago. She is the opposite of the social butterfly, Bailey, but she complements their friend group so well. We learn about Emery’s history, and begin to uncover the secrets she shrouds and protects herself with.
Jack Devlin has been nothing but bad news for the past few years. After doing a 180 and destroying his relationship with Cooper, Jack has been a pariah in Hart’s for his work with his backstabbing family. There was always something more to Jack than what we all thought, and with the small glimpses of the Jack everyone used to know sprinkled through the other Hart’s books had me very invested in their story.
I loved watching Jack and Emery dance around each other and grow together. Emery always felt a connection with Jack that allowed her to let go of her shyness and be a spitfire when she needed to. She always demanded the best from Jack, and taught him to demand the most out of himself as well. The slow burn of their story only made it that much sweeter. There were moments where I was frustrated at the both of them to recognize what was in front of their faces but it was worth it. And don’t even get me started on the twist I didn’t see coming. Jack and Emery are tied with my favorite couple, Bailey and Vaughn. 5|5 stars from Samantha Young again, but honestly, did we have any doubt??
“It was just attraction, Jack,” I lied.
He gave me a mocking, anguished smirk.
“Sunrise, we both know it was something far deeper than that.”
