Hi y’all. I realize Fangirl Friday #6 has been delayed two weeks. Life got massively in the way. Anyway, sorry for the wait but here’s
Favorite Villain.
So I was SUPER excited for this Fangirl Friday! My favorite villain ever is the Darkling from Leigh Bardugo’s Grisha series. Let’s paint a picture here: The Darkling is ancient yet possesses youthful beauty. With ink black hair, quartz eyes, and sharp, handsome features he certianly is a sight to behold. Combine that with his powers of summoning darkness and you have yourself one heck of a man.

The Darkling’s symbol. So. Freaking. Gorgeous.
He’s sexy, charming, ruthless, misguided, compelling, captivating…I could keep going on and on. He’s morally complex and that’s what makes him and his storyline so completely enthralling. He wants power, yes, and he’s evil for lack of a better term, but he wants what he sees is best for Ravka. Even if it’s killing innocents in the process.
I haven’t talked to a single person who didn’t love the Darkling. There was a part of me who was rooting for him through the series. He’s unapologetic in what he wants and how he will achieve it.
The conclusion of Ruin and Rising and the moments with the Darkling broke my heart. He’s one of those characters that no matter how bad they are you can’t help but fall for them.
The Darkling is truly one of the best antiheroes I’ve read. And as always I bow to anything and everything Leigh Bardugo because seriously, the woman is a creative genius and a master with a pen (or keyboard, whichever).
If you *gasp* haven’t read the Grisha series you should do that. Right now.
Shadow and Bone : Grisha book 1
“Fine, make me your villain.”
“The problem with wanting is that it makes us weak.”
Siege and Storm: grisha book 2
“I’ve seen what you truly are and I’ve never turned away. I never will. Can he say the same?”
“We are alike as no one else is, as no one else will ever be.”
Ruin and Rising: Grisha book 3
“I will strip away all that you know, all that you love, until you have no shelter but mine.”
“You live in a single moment. I live in a thousand.”
So who is your favorite villain?
Next week is BEA and I will be in Chicago so Fangirl Friday will resume on May 27th!
